| | | General comments? | I bought this truck Feb. 28, 2001 because my family outgrew my '93 Xtracab 4x4 (new baby with carseat), and really didn't consider any other brands after my incredibly good experience with the old Toyota. HOWEVER, from the day I drove this truck home, I noticed an odd, faint vibration that seemed to intensify during normal braking. In the past year, I've had 5 tire balance jobs, warped front rotors replaced at 4000 mi., out of round rear drums replaced at 4000 & 8000 mi., and at 10,000 mi now, think the drums are bad again. The dealer, after replacing the brakes, re-aligning the front end, and who knows what else they did (all under warranty, thank god), determined it was a problem with the tires. I have put a different set of rims & tires on to test their theory, and the vehicle still has vibration and brake shudder.
Some of the official service dept. solutions have been "use the parking brake", "don't use the parking brake - it may press the drums out of round", "downshift rather than using the brakes to stop", "don't use the brakes as much", "never seen this problem before", etc.
Well, this problem I am experiencing seems to be haunting Tundra drivers around the country (check out some of the internet Tundra clubs).
I can honestly say that I am extremely dissapointed with my Tundra, as it has not measured up to the quality standard I have come to expect from my previous experiences with excellent Toyota products, which were far better than experiences with the "big 3" products. Adding to my frustration is Toyota's inability to come up with a permanent solution to this seemingly common problem.
I can't bring myself to buy my wife the Sequoia Limited 4x4 (at $46K) until I know my Tundra can be fixed for good. | | | Previous car | '93 Toyota Xtracab DX 4x4 V6 |
